Switch Media Streams Andy Warhol Musical Online

Switch Media recently completed a unique online only project which involved streaming the musical Andy X, the new biopic about the life and times of Andy Warhol as seen from his death-bed in a New York Hospital on 22 February 1987. Produced and directed by Jim Sharman of Rocky Horror Picture Show fame, Andy X adopted an entirely new approach to marketing and distribution using online as its sole distribution platform.

Switch Media CEO Christopher Stenhouse said, “When we were approached by transmedia producers DLSHS and independent filmmaking collective Sunday Pictures about a musical version of Andy Warhol’s life, we knew this was going to be an interesting project. These two teams of brilliant creatives, backed by industry legend Jim Sharman had a vision which they needed Switch Media’s multi-platform video expertise to make a reality.”

Stenhouse added, “When we explored the brief further we discovered that there were many other requirements that needed to be fulfilled. Firstly Andy X is a pay-per-view model so we had to factor in the complexities of allowing the viewer access to the movie for 48 hours only. Secondly, the content was to be protected so it couldn’t be copied. Thirdly, we also had to ensure that the movie utilised multiple CDNs to make the process more cost effective and the viewing experience the clearest possible.”

Switch Media made its name developing the highly regarded Video Content Management System (VCMS) which forms the basis of many of the industry’s leading multi-platform video management and distribution solutions and which was also at the heart of their online solution for Andy X.
